Pinays of Southern California
This is just one of the photos I took during one of the gatherings hosted by a Pinay and attended by Pinays who had stayed in this state for almost 40 years now, my sister included. I came just to eavesdrop.
I enjoyed the food (dinuguan, bagoong) and the stories. And what stories they did tell!
All their stories told about how they dumped their philandering husbands like shit. And how they raised their children as single moms. One whose name escapes me at the moment told that God punished her husband through the 9/11 disaster because her man chose to be converted into Mohamedanism so as to justify his many wives. He was to follow her but failed because of his Muslim name that made him a terrorist suspect. Etcetera... Etcetera...
Could it be true that only strong women leave their homelands to land on the shores of California and bring along their husbands and children like Spartan warriors going to war? Could it also be true that the men just leave everything to the wives and play around in wild abandon because they believe that women are stronger?
I dunno. Am I strong enough like these women? Am I brave enough to face the winds of change in my life?

Very interesting. I'm sure each of them has a story to tell. How many are planning to return home ? how many are from Bicol ? How about your sis , does she have plans of returning to Sorsogon ?
